Fountain of Youth

This was scribbled on the street sign post at Stockley Street, Rehoboth Beach, DE. There was no evidence of a fountain, so I'm assuming they were referring to the beach ;-)

Swallowtail Butterfly

This is a beautiful Swallowtail butterfly, photographed in the back yard. My wife grows planters of parsley and keeps them near the butterfly bush to entice the females to lay eggs. Once the eggs hatch, we capture the baby caterpillars and nurture them to maturity. The mature butterfly are released to continue the cycle. I hope to photograph the sequence some day. Unfortunately, no caterpillars this year. We're still hopeful.

Sailboat

I though this was a tranquil shot of a sailboat on the ocean with the beach umbrellas and dune grasses in the foreground.

Not a typical umbrella

I shot this while sitting on the beach one day. I thought the sheen from the underside and the contrast of colors against the sky would look cool.

Cold Drink

This was shot next to the Royal Treat in Rehoboth Beach, DE, while on our annual vacation. I thought it was odd that someone would think that a cold drink could be gotten from the Fire Department connection :-o

Hitchhiker

I arrived at work the other day to discover I had a hitchhiker on my bike. I let it be and when I returned to my bike at lunch, it had died :-(

X marks the spot

This X marks the exact spot where .... (you fill in the blank)

I saw this interesting intersection of some jet trail on my way to work one morning this past week. The little guy in the lower left corner snuck in between the time I first saw it and was able to get to a spot where I could take a photograph.

My son's cloud book identifies these as Contrails.

Caught in the act

Actually, a setup ....

Our puppy, Zephyr, has quite the personality. She has an affection for socks. If you leave socks around, she will snag them and carry them off where she licks them. She can dive into a laundry basket and remove all the socks without disturbing any other articles.

She was attempting to snag some socks from my clean laundry, so I put her in the basket and covered her with the clean clothes. She got a sock (naturally), so I took a few shots.

Fireworks on the 4th

I normally do an amateur fireworks show, but my source of good fireworks is gone :-(

I experimented with some ground fireworks I purchased, and a few aerial shots of some neighbor's fireworks. All of these shots are hand held.

A ground firework at a fast shutter speed.

4th of July

My town hosts the typical small town 4th of July Parade. Fire Trucks, bands (including bagpipes), and lots of John Deere tractors. Here's a few shots from today's parade.

Here's a shot looking towards Main St as people wait for the parade to start.

Here's a shot of a rather intimidating police vehicle. One might ask why such a vehicle would be necessary in small town America.

Old

There are a bunch of commercial greenhouses that are being dismantled near my home. A park is planned for this site. I thought these photos would have an interesting 'rustic industrial' look.

A view through one of the old exhaust fans. I like the perspective in this photo.

June Sunset

We had a slow moving low pressure front craw through the region during June. Once the low passed, it positioned itself off the coast of Maine and continued to pump clouds through the region for days. This made for some spectacular sunsets.

I'll post some other I took in the future.

We have ornamental grasses in our back yard, which provided an excellent
foreground for the setting sun.
