Egg

Year ago, I traveled to Singapore on business and bought a few trinkets, one of which was this egg.  I shot this on our kitchen counter lighted only by a recessed fixture, hence the brightness on the top.

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM lens
Exposure 1.3 sec @ f7.1 (Aperture Priority)
ISO 800

What a souvenir, Wayne! I have a mate' cup from Argentina and that's about it. This egg is beautiful.

Amazing how much work goes into decorating these eggs! This is an attractive one!

Neato! Methinks you could have fun with this egg and a flash or two. As far as the press pass, I didn't have one; I was the mascot's designated escort for the picnic and parade.

Hi Stine. I can't imagine decorating one of these. I'd go nuts!

Marka,
I haven't experimented with the flash on this one, but I should. I bought a flash back in November and I've used it a few times with good results. I got a book on Flash photography for Christmas. Maybe I should read the book and get some tricks!

@Marka +1

These kinda objects beg to be lit well.

Rim light this!

Will Mike tell us how to rim light? Never heard of it but would love to know how. Thanks for the note on David Foote - I do follow his blog and saw his post of the orange...his shot is much better! The fizz bubbles are really cool!

Rebecca, I googled for rim light and found some link to describe how it's done. Basically, it's back/side lit, but with low level light. Check out the last photo at this link. It's really cool.
